As a student in Vienna, I spent months trying to find a research internship - not just locally, but internationally. I sent cold emails that went unanswered. I asked professors who didn't know of any openings. I searched through scattered job boards that mixed internships with full-time jobs, paid placements, and irrelevant listings.
The best opportunities were invisible. They existed - in labs at ETH Zürich, in marine research stations in Norway, in AI teams at universities across the world - but they were shared only through word of mouth, informal networks, and lucky connections.
I wasn't alone. When I talked to my fellow students, I heard the same story over and over again: "I would have loved to do an international research internship - I just didn't know where to look."

Hi - I'm a student based in Vienna. Like many of you, I spent a long time trying to find a meaningful research internship. I wanted to work in a real lab, contribute to real science, and gain international experience.
What I found instead was a system that rewards connections over curiosity. The best labs didn't advertise. The best projects were filled before most students even knew they existed. And every platform I tried either mixed research with regular jobs, or was so niche that it only covered one field.
So I built InternAtlas - the platform I wish had existed when I was searching. A place where any student, regardless of their network or university, can find world-class research opportunities. And where any researcher can easily connect with motivated students from around the globe.
This is just the beginning. InternAtlas is a small project with a big ambition: to make research more accessible, more diverse, and more connected - one internship at a time.
